How many replicants have died at Tyrell Corporation, two? or one?

    About scene 10, “Visiting Holden”

This article is about scene 10, “Visiting Holden”. This scene, which was rejected in the original version of Blade Runner, is where Deckard visits Holden, who is on life support after being shot by Leon.

This scene is already available in edited footage on the Blade Runner DVD and Bru-Ray bonus discs. Therefore, there is no need to re-edit it, but the following changes have been made in “White Dragon Cut 5”.

    1. Changed Holden’s dialogue
Holden’s dialogue “Ten days ago, Security at the Tyrell Corp. finds three intruders in the records room. Kills one, two get away” has been changed to “Ten days ago, Security at the Tyrell Corp. finds three intruders in the records room. Kills two, one get away”.
    2. Added spinner flight scene

Learn more about the changes to Holden’s dialogue.

Holden explains to Deckard about the replicants that broke into the Tyrell Corporation in this scene, “Ten days ago, Security at the Tyrell Corp. finds three intruders in the records room. Kills one, two get away”.

However, in the scene before this scene, “Replicants in Question,” Bryant tells Deckard that “There was an escape from the Off-world colonies two weeks ago. Six replicants.” and “Two of them got fried running through an electrical field”.

You can see the differences between Holden’s and Bryant’s dialogue about the number of replicants that died at the Tyrell Corporation.

There are six escaped Replicants, As Bryant says. Then the number of people who died is two, six minus the four who are currently alive. This means that Bryant’s dialogue is right and Holden’s is wrong.

Why such the difference occurred is a well-known story among Blade Runner fans.
The reason is that in the original script, there were five surviving replicants, not four. If there would be five surviving replicants, Holden’s dialogue “Kills one” would be correct.
Actually, Bryant’s dialogue, “Two of them got fried running through an electrical field” was corrected in “Blade Runner Final Cut”. in earlier versions, it was “One of them got fried running through an electrical field”. Even after the number of replicants was reduced by one due to budget and time constraints, the dialogues of Bryant and Holden have been left unmodified.

Also, Bryant does not mention the number of people who broke into the Tyrell Corporation. Holden says, “three intruders”. Thus, It would be the truth of “Six people escaped, three of them broke into the Tyrell Corporation, and two of them died”.

Now, as mentioned, Bryant’s dialogue was corrected in “Blade Runner Final Cut”. In “White Dragon Cut 5”, Holden’s dialogue is corrected and the discrepancy in the number of replicants is resolved.

To you Blade Runner fans : Can you tell where the hidden editing cut is?

Now, in addition to the above changes, there is one more part that I edited with great care. But I dare not write which cut it is. Try to find it.

    〈Scene 10 : Visiting Holde〉
