There is a big news that Mr. Shu, who is the one of the famous editor of Fan Edit Film, is starting editing of “STAR WARS The Empire Strikes Back – Original Japanese Theatrical Version”.
“STAR WARS The Empire Strikes Back – Original Japanese Theatrical Version” is the Japanese dubbed version made when “STAR WARS The Empire Strikes Back” was released in Japan in 1981, with the voice of Luke dubbed by Eiji Okuda and Han Solo dubbed by Leo Morimoto, a very rare and hard to find version on DVD and Blu-ray.
Mr. Shu has launched a hardcore project to remake this rare version in Full-HD.
And now, I am honored to be asked to create the scrolling telop ,which the Star Wars logo and the summary of the background story is moving from front to back of the screen.
I didn’t know until now, but this Japanese dubbed version and the one made afterwards have completely different Japanese telop text. For example, the “暗黒卿 (Dark Lord)” has become “悪の化身 (Evil Incarnate)” or the “探査ドロイド (Exploration Droid)” has become a “偵察ロケット (Exploration rocket)”.
Mr. shu’s determination to recreate this original Japanese telop make me see his perfectionism to detail in recreating. I love this kind of perfectionism!
For this project, I was received some footages and edited with “Adobe After Effects”.

There is one thing I noticed in creating this scrolling telop. It’s about the movement speed of the telop.
The telop of the summary of the background story, moves at a constant speed in 3D space from the front to the back. ,On the flip side, The Star Wars logo moves slowly in the beginning and gradually increases in speed. I think this was a way to make the logo appear more clearly to us.
Well, that’s why it was so hard to make the new logo move as the original one.

Let’s wait for the day when Shu’s passion brings us original 1981 STAR WARS Japanese dub version on Full HD. I can’t wait it!
