Prototype ‘ANACO MART’ drawn by Syd Mead

CG reproductin of 2019 Los Angeles illustration drawn by Syd Mead for ‘Blade Runner’.

I have made a CG of the movie version ANACO MART in previous article.
Next, I would make a CG of prototype ANACO MART drawn by Syd Mead.

The prototype ANACO MART drawn by Syd Mead

You can see three defferences between the Sid Mead version of ANACO MART and the movie version.

    1. The central part of building is set back.
The central part of building is in the back, and one step higher.
    2. The shape of the sign is different from the center and at both ends.
The central part of the sign is facing the front, and the signs at both ends are slanting down.
    3. Signs are written not Japanese but English.

It can be said that the ANACO MART drawn by Syd Mead is a complex shape that combines the three shapes of the center and both ends.
In particular, the interface of central and both ends have a unique chamfer to absorb differences in shape.

I have thought that the movie version ANACO MART was a simple redesign of Sid Mead’s prototype ANACO MART, but it may be a reproduction of only the central part of the prototype ANACO MART.
